1907 - Katharine Hepburn is born Katharine Houghton Hepburn in Hartford on May 12th.


1921 - Kathy's older brother, Tom dies while Kath and Tom are visiting an aunt in New York. Kath is devastated, and takes on Tom's role as oldest brother. She even begins using Tom's birthdate (October 12th) as her own.


1928 - Kath marries Ludlow (Luddy) Ogden Smith and graduates from Bryn Mawr College with a double major in both history and philosophy.

1932 - Kath finally has a Broadway hit with A Warrior's Husband. Hollywood beckons and Kath takes a train from New York to California. Luddy patiently awaits her return.

1933 - Kath's career is in the toilet (despite the fact she had just won an Oscar). She returns to the stage with The Lake, flounders horribly and suffers some terrible reviews (Go to the Martin Beck theatre and see Katharine Hepburn run the gumaut of emotions! From A to B).

1934 - Kath flies to Mexico to divorce Luddy and makes a string of pictures that do terribly. 1938 - Kath is proclaimed Box Office Poison by the critics along with Joan Crawford, Marlene Dietrich and Fred Astaire with the release of Bringing up Baby. However, Phillip Barry is writing a play. A play with a character written just for her....

1940 - After Philadelphia Story's long and glorious run on Broadway, Kath persuades Howard Hughes to purchase the screen rights for her in order to make a comeback in Hollywood. Lovesick Howard agrees, and Kath quickly gets Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer on board.

1942 - Still enjoying Philadelphia Story's success and rejoicing her new MGM contract, Kath purchases the screen rights for Woman of the Year. She asks for and gets Spencer Tracy to star alongside her, meets him, and is completely star-struck and smitten. Thankfully, the feeling is mutual.

1949 - Tired of caring for Spencer and making pictures, Kath returns to the stage as Rosalind in As You Like It.

1952 - Kath ends her MGM contract the way she started it: with Spencer, in Pat and Mike. She stars in a production of George Benard Shaw's, The Millionairess and recives a few bad reviews.

1962 - Kath retires from film and works frequently onstage while still caring for Spence.

1967 - Kath returns to film to make Guess Who's Coming To Dinner with Spence and wins her second Best Actress Oscar. He dies two weeks after filming, and Kath throws herself into work, no longer having somebody to look after.

1968 - Kath wins her third Oscar, this time for portraying Eleanor of Aquitane in The Lion in Winter. However, her win was not alone. She ties with Barbra Streisand (Funny Girl) and they both receive the statutes.

1975 - Kath reunites with George Cukor and makes a TV version of Love Among the Ruins with Sir Laurence Olivier.

1981 - Kath wins her fourth and final Best Actress Oscar for On Golden Pond which she made with Henry Fonda, who also won an Oscar (his only).

1986 - Kath makes Spencer Tracy: A Tribute by Katharine Hepburn.

1994 - Kath's final film performance! Love Affair with Warren Beatty and Annette Being. She retires entirely from public life due to health issues.

2003 - Kath dies in at the age of 96 at her summer home, Fenwick, in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, of old age.
